Potato Day WILL NOT TAKE PLACE IN 2021. DAG will not supply any seed potatoes in 2021.

Potato Day usually takes place at the Braeport, Dunblane some time early in the year. The committee has decided to cancel the event in 2021 due to COVID-19 uncertainty. What follows is purely for information if a potato day is held in the future.

The doors open at 1 pm and we will close at about 3 pm. There will be a £1.00 admittance charge on the door.

PLEASE BRING CASH FOR PURCHASES - THERE MAY BE A CONTACTLESS payment option available but this is not guaranteed.

The event has been sponsored by the following companies in the past and the Committee hope they will continue to support future events.
  • Bennett's Butchers - Dunblane (Facebook Home Page) TBC
  • Julian Schad - Tree Surgeon TBC
  • Mo-lawn - Dunblane TBC
  • John Marshall - Potato Expert (take a look at this website for some tips, or elsewhere on the internet!) TBC

Refreshments have been provided on the day by "Another Tilly Tearoom". TBC

A list of available seed potatoes can be reviewed when known with a variety of Salad/First Early/Second Early and Maincrop tubers on sale.
  • Salad - should be ready to lift in July / August
  • First Early - should be ready to lift in June / July
  • Second Early - should be ready during July / August
  • Maincrop - should be ready between August / October

With earlies, wait until the flowers open or the buds drop; the tubers are ready to harvest when they are the size of hens' eggs.

If you are restricted to a small garden or patio you could consider growing potatoes in bags. Follow this link to find out more or just pop 'growing potatoes on patios' into your preferred search engine (google?). Remember, however, that you will need to have somewhere to put the soil at the end of the growing season.
