If you are new to being a plot holder.
PLEASE TAKE TIME TO READ AND UNDERSTAND THE DAG DOCUMENTATION WHICH OUTLINES THE RULES FOR MAINTAINING AN ALLOTMENT.

Getting started on your plot
These rules can be found under the menu item The People/Documentation.
Getting started on your plot
- Get some good gloves and some basic tools
- Look at other people’s plots for ideas and inspiration
- Make a plan for your plot
- If the plot is in a bad state clear it of weeds and rubbish a bit at a time
- Get advice – talk to other plot-holders about what to grow
- Aim to do a little work on your plot regularly and often. This is especially true in the warm growing season since weeds grow as strongly as your fruits and veg
- Keep on top of the weeding - and please do not neglect your borders with other plot-holders
- Don't be too self-critical in the first year. Give yourself several seasons to find out what works best for you
- Defend your crops against pests (birds will strip cabbages and peas, slugs slaughter young plants)
- Take photos to remind you of your progress
- Make sure you have safety in mind at all times. Store away your (cleaned) tools at the end of your visit
- ENJOY rather than endure. The experience should be a healthy diversion from the trials and tribulations of a hectic life
